“Himpunan Sejuta Umat”

3,000 Malaysian Muslims gathering staged a protest against alleged growing attempts by Christians to proselytize Muslims. Despite a smaller-than-expected turnout, the rally reflects growing racial tension in Muslim-majority Malaysia ahead of general elections widely expected next year.  Nonetheless, conservative Muslims worried about Christian groups trying to convert Muslims to their faith aim to draw tens of thousands of people to their rather optimistically titled Himpunan Sejuta Umat, or Gathering of a Million Muslims, at a stadium in Shah Alam, near Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday October 22,2011.
